In conclusion of this album and year, I have a very deliberate message within this closing track.
No matter how scary, chaotic or hard things get, we have to remember to not look away. When I say that, I don’t mean necessarily with our eyes, but in more of a heart sense. It’s easy to close off to the rest of the world, set yourself to autopilot, say and do all the right things, but hide your heart and soul away, prohibiting yourself from feeling anything. We do this to protect against the pain. I fell into this old habit this year, and recently caught myself, realizing that I had gradually closed my heart off to the world and to others, and even in the good times, let myself hide so deep within that I felt nothing. We all can do it, and so often without even realizing it. However, when we shut our feelings down, we also shut off the deep connections through empathy that bind our souls together and connect us in a real and deep way. Let my own lesson be a reminder to you all that without the pain, struggles and sadness, this life would be meaningless. We need the bad feelings to define and give life to the good, as is the dualistic nature of this reality. If this resonates with you, I suggest you try practicing what I have to work on opening myself back up: take a moment every day to meditate on those who you are grateful for, sifting through the good memories in your mind, and really sit in those thoughts until you physically feel that gratitude and love in your chest. I find that it becomes easier and more natural for me to remain open over time as I do this regularly. Once again I stress that it is important to let yourself feel every feeling that comes up, no matter what it is. Don’t look away from life- embrace it with openness and gratitude and magic will surely find its way to you. I promise.
